Medical Grade Facials vs. Spa Facials
At Lucienne, we offer medical-grade and spa facials, depending on our client’s wants and needs. Each approach has its unique set of benefits, which is why both are part of our repertoire. Here’s where they differ:
The main goal of a spa facial is to offer a pampering experience. They’re also a beautifying, multi-step treatment that removes impurities and addresses common skin concerns. However, they don’t offer dramatic or long-lasting results.
Medical-grade facials are geared toward skin rejuvenation. These are multi-step facials that involve the use of medical-grade skincare, tools and techniques to treat skin concerns on a deeper level. Because these facials target specific skin problems, they may not be as relaxing as a spa facial, but they do offer long-lasting results.
What to Expect During a Professional Facial Treatment
If you’ve never had the opportunity to experience a professional facial, you’re probably curious to learn about the steps involved.
1) A facial usually starts with an initial consultation. You will meet with one of our providers so they can check if this treatment is right for you. We may take your personal information, review your medical history and ask about your lifestyle habits. We will also talk to you about your goals and expectations of treatment.
2) On the day of your scheduled appointment, you will be asked to lie down on a facial bed, and your skin will be thoroughly cleansed. Your provider will use cotton pads and specialized products for this purpose.
3) After that, it’s time to perform a careful skin analysis using a magnifying lamp. Your eyes will be covered with damp cotton pads to help protect them and keep you comfortable as this goes on.
4) Once your provider has determined your skin type, tone and problems, they will perform the appropriate exfoliation technique. Exfoliation needs to be personalized to work and to prevent skin irritation. Some clients benefit from acids or enzymes, while others benefit from mechanical exfoliation.
5) After exfoliation, we may also perform extractions to remove blackheads and whiteheads. This is usually followed by a massage, facial masks, serums, and finally, a protective cream.
A typical facial takes about an hour to complete. It’s normal to experience mild redness and tenderness, especially with medical-grade facials. But this side effect subsides within a couple of hours.
