5 Things to Know About the EMTONE® Cellulite Treatment

Cellulite is a common problem seen in 90% of women of all ages, shapes and sizes. But despite its high prevalence, many women are still bothered by the lumpy and dimpled “orange peel” look of cellulite — and it is notoriously difficult to get rid of.

If you are looking for smoother skin, it may be time to try out EMTONE®. This noninvasive treatment uses a combination of energies to address all significant factors that contribute to cellulite. EMTONE® has no BMI or skin type restrictions and is a quick treatment with no downtime. While many noninvasive and energy-based treatments promise to eliminate cellulite, not many are as effective and convenient as EMTONE®.

Here are five other facts about EMTONE®, now available at Lucienne Salon & Medical Spa in South Jordan.

1. EMTONE® Treats 5 Causes of Cellulite

Cellulite manifests as dimpled and lumpy skin, primarily in the buttocks, thighs and lower abdomen. It is a multifactorial condition influenced by various factors, including genetics, hormonal changes, lifestyle habits, and aging.

The causes of cellulite include:

  • Enlarged fat chambers
  • Diminished collagen and elastin fibers
  • Loss of skin tone and elasticity
  • Poor blood flow
  • Metabolic waste retention

Cellulite develops when fibrous bands connecting the skin to underlying tissue pull the skin down, causing the fat chambers between them to push up against the skin. Diminished collagen and elastin levels due to aging and loss of skin elasticity can contribute to this problem. Poor blood flow and metabolic waste accumulation are also believed to contribute.

EMTONE® addresses all five issues with its combined radiofrequency (RF) energy and deep tissue stimulation. RF energy boosts collagen production and skin elasticity, while tissue stimulation boosts blood flow and encourages waste removal.

2. EMTONE® Is Unique

EMTONE® is the first and only device to combine radiofrequency and mechanical targeted pressure energy (TPE) for the treatment of cellulite.

RF energy and mechanical pressure remain the gold standard in noninvasive cellulite treatment, as recognized by the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD). These technologies address problems both in the skin and the underlying fat that contribute to cellulite.

Most treatments, however, use either RF or mechanical pressure. This meant patients required multiple treatments, which had limited efficiency due to a lack of synergy. EMTONE® is the only device that incorporates both technologies, which enhances treatment efficiency and reduces treatment time.

Developed by BTL, the two energies safely combined in EMTONE® are emitted via a hand-held applicator. To ensure patient safety and treatment efficiency, we use a grounding pad placed underneath the treatment area to ensure the safe flow of RF energy set at 447 kHz, which is optimal for deep treatment.

3. EMTONE® Works

While all cellulite treatments promise to offer visible results, EMTONE® has research to back up its claims. A study with no conflict of interest involving 30 women with cellulite found that this treatment worked in 93% of patients and that their hips and thigh circumference dropped by almost an inch. The makers of EMTONE® say this treatment also leads to a 59% increase in skin collagen, a 64% increase in elastin and a 44% thicker dermis.

EMTONE® works by delivering simultaneous RF and TPE energy to both the deep layers of the skin and the underlying fat. The RF energy heats the skin, which triggers collagen and elastic production to create tighter and smoother skin. RF energy is also believed to shrink fat cells and lead to better-organized fibrous bands, which reduces the pull on the skin that creates the infamous orange-peel look of cellulite.

4. EMTONE® Treats Multiple Areas

Cellulite usually appears around the pelvic region, where fat accumulates in most women and girls. The upper arms can be affected as well, especially with increased age. No matter where it appears, EMTONE® can be safely used to treat cellulite on the:

  • Buttocks
  • Thighs
  • Lower abdomen
  • Upper arms

Depending on the region and the severity of your cellulite, you may need between one and four treatment sessions. Each session lasts about 30 minutes per treatment area, and you can have multiple areas treated on the same day.

Besides diminishing the appearance of cellulite, EMTONE® can also tighten crepey and loose skin in the upper arms and lower abdomen. What’s really great about this treatment is that there are no weight or skin type limits, which isn’t the case with many other cellulite treatments. We can safely use this treatment on nearly any body shape, size and skin tone and on almost any area of the body.

5. The Results Are Long-Lasting

While the results from EMTONE® are not permanent, they can last a relatively long time. Your results will initially take about four weeks to two months to appear and can last up to six months, if not longer. The exact duration of your final results depends on your body’s response to this treatment. In most patients, the treatment leads to improved collagen and elastin production over several months.

Once your collagen and elastin levels go back to their pre-treatment levels and the underlying causes of cellulite return, you may notice your cellulite and loose skin gradually re-appear. These changes are simply due to your unique physiology, and there is currently no treatment that can permanently change that.

To maintain your results longer than six months, we recommend getting regular EMTONE® treatment once or twice a year. Touch-up treatments are quick and safe and will let you enjoy the benefits of EMTONE® longer.
